Bonsai Stands

Bonsai Stands

Having a good bonsai stand to go with your bonsai is very essential to give the touch of elegance to your bonsai display. The concept of bonsai stands is as old as bonsai itself, and the Chinese and Japanese bonsai masters pay a good deal of attention in choosing the right kind of stand for the bonsai display.

The most important thing to keep in mind while choosing a stand is that the bonsai plant takes precedence over the stand. The stand is meant to accentuate the over all looks of the bonsai and not override it. The best way to choose the right kind of stand is to draw a sketch of your bonsai plant along with different styles of stands, and then decide on the right design. The bonsai stand should also be strong enough to take the weight of the pot and the plant.

There are a lot of options for selecting your stand. You could either choose a pedestal stand or a flat bed one, depending on where you want to place your bonsai tree. Flat bed stands are best suited for table tops, where as pedestal stands are suited when the bonsai is kept at a corner of the room for formal display.

Some stands come with additional features like turn table and drawers, which you could use as a storage place for your bonsai stools.

The materials most commonly used for creating bonsai stands are rosewood, mahogany, Timber, Wild oak, Cherry. For some wood variety watering the plant with the tree on the stand could cause damage to the wood, hence you should be careful about removing the plant from the stand before watering. Otherwise you could look for a stand coated with water proof paint.

Spend some time on deciding the right kind of stand for your bonsai trees, and you will be amazed at how much more beauty they can add to the overall design of your bonsai tree.
